Hubby and daughter are celebrities.
I mean their faces have graced several newspapers, including the Philippine Inquirer and the Philippine Star, courtesy of the Ecothings event, Make Your Own Notebook, which was held at the Rockwell Club last April 16 – yes, I kept copies :D. Hubby, with partners Judy Malabanan and Yvonne Castro, also appeared on several television shows promoting reducing, reusing and recycling.
I am so proud.
Mostly, I am proud because of their Ecothings. Ecothings is a Filipino company that brings topnotch eco-printed products that put priority on the environment and it is the pioneering brand for eco-friendly notebooks made from post-consumer recycled paper and recyclable materials. Which is quite timely because school is just around the corner and now it can be fun-er and green-er.
Yes, green is in.
Using recycled paper is a simple lifestyle switch you can do to help our environment. Students, in particular, can start a green school year with chic and stylish notebooks (hubby’s graphic design studio is behind the designs for the Ecothings notebooks and I love them – I am sure you will too) and save a few trees along the way. According to Yvonne, Ecothings’ President, “When you use recycled paper, you help save trees from being cut, and you help save water and energy needed to produce new paper. Ecothings notebooks are made with our planet in mind”.
According to Conservatree.com, each year, thousands of trees are cut down to make paper for notebooks during the back-to-school rush. But one tree will produce only 8,333 sheets of A4-sized paper. The Department of Education counted 2.4 million students enrolled in private elementary and highschools throughout the country in 2010. If each one has 7 notebooks, thousands (and thousands!) of trees will be cut down to meet our paper needs. Imagine that.

Since its launch in April, Ecothings has been raising environmental awareness with its Make Your Own Notebook events, where participants make their very own eco-notebooks made from recycled paper, and decorate them with recycled art materials. Participants also learn how one can collect unused sheets of paper from old notebooks to make them like new. The last one was held on May 14, 2011, at Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
