There are those who will always see the glass as half empty.
There are those who will only see the ugly in the situation – and commit it to memory – so they can remind you of it, and catch you unaware.
(sometimes you get caught unaware – when you are your weakest – and that is okay)
There are those who will say something awful and make you feel bad – while keeping a straight face and looking well-meaning and well-intentioned, their barb carefully placed, making you feel, of course, awful.
(not realizing that words have a way of sneaking up on the speaker)
There are those who will compare and look at you with envious eyes. Not measuring up, they strike out and lash out.
Who are not happy for some reason – the weather, their jobs, other people – and want to share their un-happiness.
These are not the people you want around you – no – but they do show up from time to time.
It makes for one lousy day, sure.
But in these times, be careful not to mirror their feelings or make an equally sharp retort.
(it’s hard, I know)
We are here to build, not destroy.
They do have a purpose, if only for you to look at happy days with gratefulness.
And at your blessings, because you have so many.
If you can, erase their bitterness. They have a reason for feeling and being that way. If you have the strength, dig deeper. Some just need a person to talk to because they have been at the receiving end of someone’s bad day much too much, or have had just several of those bad days.
That they can’t help but turn rotten some of the time.
You have a choice – suffer their presence, keep away, or be the better person and lift them up and take them with you to your good place.
More importantly, be gentle with yourself.
Build, do not destroy.
Words are only words. It will only have the power that you give it.
If it builds you, give it much. If it does not, give it to the winds.
The winds would know what to do with it.
(and that is nothing)
The world is much too wonderful, the future too bright to concern ourselves with cloudy days.
And cloudy people.
Be a burst of sunshine and dispel the darkness – and the universe will echo your effort and gift you with happy days.
So you can continue your merry way.
