The Prophecy

Vortex

Today was supposed to have been the end of the world.

It did not end. Life went on.  The pressures are the same, the concerns and the responsibilities remained top of mind.

No one breathed a sigh of relief – at least, none discernible. Everyone shrugged, pleaded to have never believed the prophecy. Yet all were palpably aware of what could have been – that is, everyone living their nightmares.

But would it have been a nightmare? Would no one have breathed a sigh of relief because it is the end?

Because we are all going there – we are all on our way. And yet why do we cling to life so much? To material possessions, to memories, to what we believe and hold to be true?

When the truth is no one can live forever. Nothing can last forever, not even memories, or riches, or legacies. Even those whom some say will live on forever. Those too – they too – will have to come to an end.

So why do we delude ourselves and chase something impermanent? Something that at some point will lose its importance, its meaning, its relevance?

When we cannot leave anything – not even an imprint.

There are no answers. Maybe it all goes back to the question of the meaning of life. Why are we here? And while we are grappling with the questions, we try to supply answers of our own.

Sometimes by waging our wars and playing our cruel jokes. Or fighting amongst ourselves, with ourselves, believing we are winning, or losing.

Some of those who are defeated cannot get up, some of those who win cling to the belief that they will never lose.

When all of us are just passing through.

But if we are just passing through, what must we do?

Be kind. For all it is worth, be kind. To others, but mostly to ourselves. Without any thought of leaving legacies, or memories, or good examples. Just the basic tenet of turning our backs to our own darkness.

Fulfill our fullest potential. This is what we owe ourselves. This is what we are here for – to learn, to evolve and then – yes – to forget.

Enjoy the ride. One chance, one life, one opportunity.

Live. Live.
